Nose guide

Animalics - ( Holy Little Lamb, Misanthropy, The Hag. ) Animalics are fragrances with, you guessed it, notes of animals. This can range in intensity and even in scent profiles. Holy little lamb for example has a wool accord, which smells like dried fruits and sweet tobacco. The Hag has notes of deer, which smells slightly powdery, earthy and woody. Animalics add sensuality and depth to a fragrance, sometimes giving it an "edge."

Gourmand - (Candy Clowns, Smelling & regurgitating, Grasshopper Creme,) Sweet, often edible smelling, think desserts and sugary drinks. One of the most popular fragrance categories, super easy to wear and often safe blind buys.

Avant-Garde - (Blood Meridian, Witness Me) - Out there, strange, art pieces more than anything. Think metallic, blood, asphalt, gunpowder, electrical wires, rubber.

Woody - (Dog Eat Dog World, Lycan's Milk, Scarecrow Walks at Night, Oh Deer!)- Warm, dry, earthy. Think sandalwood, cedar, pine, fir. It can range from being refreshing and slightly minty (Lycan's Milk) to earthy and almost sweet and creamy. (Scarecrow)

Aquatic/marine - (Ghost of the Ozarks, Fear Thy Geese) Water, ocean, sea spray, salt, ambergris. All things wet and briny, pond water can smell very algae leaning. Ocean accords are more fresh and salty, sometimes even floral.

Resinous & Smoky- (All Saints Day, The Hag) Church incense like frankincense and myrrh, resins like Peru balsam, cade oil & birch tar which can smell like a campfire and hot coals. Smoky and sticky.

Florals- (Goblin Bile)  Jasmine, rose, peony, lily of the valley. Florals can range from animalic and even fecal like to powdery and soap to sweet and dreamy. Florals are usually top notes and often times the scent a fragrance is built around. There's a floral for every season and every occasion.

Second Skin - (Dog Eat Dog World, Heliotropin Teeth, Cat's Meow)- Soft, sometimes unnoticeable notes in perfumery. Ambroxan is one of the most popular, and my favorite. Others include ambrette (musk mallow), soft wood accords, pink pepper, powdery musks, etc. The scents are polite and usually fit for spaces where a "loud" or strange perfume might not be suitable. Safe & comfortable to wear, hence the nickname "Second Skin."
